Metal Sculpture
Anne's Woods websiteMy sculpture incorporates influences from traditional blacksmithing as well as my experience as a 3D animator and landscape designer. Each piece is a study in distilling the beauty, rhythm and pattern of the natural world into a single focus, such as a dragonfly or a tree branch.
Each piece is also about the material itself. I love that it takes the strength and malleability of steel to show the delicate lines and flowing curves I like to explore in my work. And though we see it most often in industrial contexts, steel is made up of natural elements and has an energy and a luster that gives life to the work.
I pay careful attention to the details of natural forms and strive to capture them in an elegant and contemporary way. If a piece resonates with someone and reminds them to look for those details themselves to find joy in them and to care about the planet then thats a successful piece.
